| Throughout the week, members of the Canton Fire Department visited Canton Banford School and the Siena School to teach children about fire safety. Their lessons included the importance of smoke detectors, knowing two ways to exit a building, choosing a meeting place, how to call 911, and seeing and hearing firefighters in full turnout gear.
The fire prevention activities at Canton Banford School concluded on Friday, when the winners of the smoke detector contest received a ride to school in a fire truck. That same afternoon, Canton Fire and Rescue, along with Canton Police, responded to the school for a drill. During the drill, children watched as firefighters and firetrucks quickly responded, giving them a firsthand look at emergency operations.
Parents are encouraged to work with their children on creating escape plans and choosing a meeting place in case of an emergency at home.
