On Monday May 27, 2024 (Memorial Day) at 1848 hours, Canton Fire was dispatched to the intersection of State Highways 11, 68 and 310 for traffic control after a storm had just rolled through the area knocking out power to the entire north side of the village. Five members responded along with Canton Police and were on scene at 1853. The power outage affected several businesses in the area with several closing for the evening. Members controlled the intersection in the rain, directing traffic through until the power was restored at 2018 hours. Traffic control is one of the most dangerous jobs firefighters and police face and we thank the public for slowing down when encountering our members in the roadway.
